Types of Carpet

If you have been considering the different options available when it comes to flooring for your home, many homeowners prefer carpet. This is an excellent choice for many reasons. One is that carpet flooring comes in a wide variety of materials, textures, patterns, and colors which makes it easy to complement any room in your home. Because of all of the different carpet types available, it may be difficult to make a final decision. In order to help with the decision making process when it comes to carpet flooring, here are three common types of carpet, styles of each type, and some features of each.

Cut Pile Carpet
When strands of yarn get sewn into backing material, thousands of yarn loops get created. When the loops get cut, it is considered cut pile carpet. One major advantage of this type of carpet is that it does not snag as easily as loop pile carpet. This type of carpet flooring is one of the most frequently used and it comes in five different styles including:
  • Velvet
  • Cable
  • Shag
  • Frieze
  • Saxony
Loop Pile Carpet
With this type of carpet flooring, the yarns are looped, and then fastened to the backing. If you are trying to choose the best option for areas of your home that get a lot of traffic, loop pile is a durable type of carpet, making it a great choice. Besides durability, loop pile carpet is also easy to maintain, and it can be easily textured to give it a unique appearance. There are two types including:
  • Level loop
  • Multi-loop pile
Combination Pile Carpet
When features from both the loop pile and cut pile types of carpet are used together, it forms combination pile carpet. One major advantage of combination pile carpet is that many different patterns can be created. This type of carpet can also be used for those who want a sculptured effect in their carpet flooring such as swirls or squares. This unique type of carpet flooring comes in five different styles:
  • Random shear
  • Level and cut loop pile
  • Tip shear

The type of carpet flooring you choose for your home can depend on a variety of factors. Do you have kids or animals in the home? Do you want a unique pattern or texture?
